Tips for deciphering words with letters
You have some jumbled letters and now you need to unscramble the words from them. What's the best approach? Here are some of the best tips for figuring out what words can be made from these scrambled letters.
look for common patterns
The English language uses many of the same patterns and combinations in its words. Some letters usually appear next to each other. So, take advantage of this fact when trying to crack these encoded letters.
Some common examples are CH (as in "cheese"), TH (as in "there"), and PH (as in "telephone"). You will become a better word decipherer when you see letter combinations and not just scrambled letters.
Start short, play big
If you start looking for the longest words possible, you're probably wasting your time. Instead, build on the idea from the previous tip. Look for common letter groupings. Then see how to put them together to unscramble words that get longer and longer.
Let's say you have the letters CH and also AEEER.
Based on the CH, I could somehow connect the EA. CHEA is not a word. But,EACHAND. Add the R at the beginning to getGET.
Likewise, EE is a common combination. Combining CH and EE gives CHEE, which is not a word, but adding R to the end givesANIMATE.
Add the common suffix of -ED and you have the 7-letter word.HAPPINESS.
Increase your score further by deciphering short words. All those little points add up quickly too!
shuffle these pieces
Almost every game that involves unscrambling letters to form words has some kind of "shuffle" option. It is not a "note" in the traditional sense. Still, simply moving those letters around can help you see them in a whole new way.
If you feel stuck, keep tapping the shuffle button. See if a new word or letter combination catches your eye.
systematically decode
This won't be the most interesting tip, but it might be the most useful. It can be said that it is the equivalent of the brute force strategy. Just systematically review the possible unscrambled letters to unscramble the words. This is particularly useful for games likewort cookies® e Wordscapes®.
For example, suppose you have ADLMWY as letters.
AY is a common ending. If you examine the other letters one by one, you will getLABEL,PLACE,MAYONNAISEYDISTANT. Likewise, AD is a common ending that creates words likeLOCOYYOUNG. There is a method to this madness.
Add prefixes and suffixes
Remember the previous tip for starting short and playing long? Suffixes and prefixes can really help decode letters into words. If you see letter combinations like ED andIN G, see if you can add them to the end of existing words. Similarly, you can add IN- or RE- to the beginning of the word.
Remember to use plural forms
This builds on the advice above. Consider yourself lucky if you have the letter S at your disposal.
Just add it to the end of almost any word you find. This includes nouns and verbs. It can sometimes work with adverbs and adjectives too! Always tap the singular and plural versions of words when you have an S handy.
